Allman Electrical Services were really most excellent. I would recommend them to everybody.
If you’ve got an emergency, When the power goes out, a rush of questions fills you.
What’s happened? Has everything gone off? When’s it coming back? What do I do? And most likely, ‘have I still got WIFI?’ These sorts of problems are inconvenient, frustrating, and sometimes concerning. Don’t panic, we've got instructions to help you identify the problem and find a fix.
The first thing to do is to find your electrical box, sometimes referred to as the fuse box, consumer unit, or trip switches. It can often be found in a cupboard under your stairs, near your front door, or in the garage, and should look something like this:
Once you’ve found the box, you may need to uncover the lid. Take a look at the switches to see if any are flipped down, like an ‘off’ switch.
If many of your appliances have lost power, for example your shower, oven, fridge, and sockets, then it may be a device known as an ‘RCD’ that has tripped. If so, then turn all the other trip switches off and then try to turn the RCD back on.
If this works, then you may be able to turn the circuit breakers on individually. However, if no circuit breakers have tripped but you are still without power, then you have a total mains loss. This is sometimes caused by a power cut in your area, or perhaps by a more serious fault in your installation.
Ask your neighbours if they also have no power. If they are not experiencing any problems, then phone us on 01527 306781, as you will likely need a professional electrician to come out and we’d be glad to help you.
